About the company

at work making soaps

I'm Gerry. A mother of two who has been living in France for thirteen years. Although I have an engineering background, I wanted to branch out into something new that would correspond to my personal life-style and beliefs as well as providing an outlet for my creative side. I launched Simplement Savon in 2009.

Frustrated with trying product after product on my skin (and suffering reaction after allergic reaction), I figured it was time to get back to basics. We had already made similar steps in other areas of our lives; eating more organic food, recycling, home composting, making our own yoghurts and bread. It was now time to take this further.

I started looking closely at ingredients used in the various creams and gels I was using on my skin. Surfactants, thickeners, emulsifiers... and in the end, it seemed the more the product promised me, the worse the reaction of my skin. At the same time, I noticed the marketing of these beauty products was focusing more and more on natural ingredients; extract of avocado, apricot kernel oil or aloe vera. Yet when I looked closely, the end product contained only very tiny quantities of these. I thought I had nothing to lose by trying myself, and including only the basics.

I have become a fan of homemade soaps. It is good to know what I am putting on my skin each morning. Good to know that I am treating my body to high quality products; organic olive oils, natural essential oils, sweet almond oil and organic beeswax. Simplement Savon's products don't contain any chemical colorants, preservatives or artificial perfumes and of course, they have not been tested on animals.

Each morning when I step into the shower I am reaffirming what is really important to me. Looking after me and my family. Looking after our planet.
